Why can’t I delete my cat sitter account?

At Cat in a Flat, we take your privacy seriously and comply with both the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the DAC7/OECD tax reporting directive.

For more information on DAC7/OECD please read here.

Account Deletion & Data Retention

You have the right to request the deletion of your account and personal data under GDPR. However, due to legal obligations under DAC7/OECD, certain information must be retained for tax reporting purposes.

Since 2024, if you have completed bookings through us, when you request account deletion:

  • Your account will be deactivated, meaning you will no longer be visible on our platform, and your data will not be used for any other purpose.
  • Your tax-related information (e.g., earnings, transactions, tax identification details) will be retained and shared with your country's tax authority as required by law.

Why do we retain certain Data?

The DAC7/OECD directive requires digital platforms like ours to report income earned by service providers (cat sitters) to tax authorities. We are legally required to store this data for at least 5 years after reporting it, even if your account is closed.

How we protect your Data

  • Any retained data is stored securely and access is strictly limited.
  • We will not use your retained data for marketing or any non-tax-related purposes.
